A total of 15 containers were lost from a general cargo ship in the North Sea off the Netherlands on Wednesday.
The Dutch Coastguard reported the containers were lost from the Marshall Islands-flagged cargo ship Red Cedar while underway northwest of Texel in the Netherlands.
The ship was sailing from the Germany to the port of Antwerp at the time.
The Coastguard sent the government chartered Guardian to assist the cargo ship.
The Red Cedar was able to continue its voyage to Antwerp where it was due to arrive Thursday.
The Coastguard said the containers lost overboard did not carry any hazardous materials.
A notice has been issued to mariners in the area to watch out for containers in the water.
The 30,500 dwt Red Cedar was built in 2001.
