Man steals vital documents, laptop from Naval officer

Three men namely Odion Obakpe (34), Mathias Okonkwo (38) and Sunday Okon (31) were on Wednesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly robbing a traveller of her passport and other items in Lagos.

Obakpe, Okonkwo and Okon are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Iyabosa Onaiwu, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on September 28, 2018 at about 5am at Church Street bus stop along Lagos/Badagry Expressway.

“The defendants conspired together with others at large to rob one Grace Mensah of her bag containing the following items: Ghana Passport, Yellow Fever card, shoe valued at N5,000 and one Samsung phone and charger valued at N18,000,” Onaiwu said.

According to her, the offences are punishable under sections 411 and 297 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

All the defendants pleaded guilty to the charges against them.

Magistrate O. S Abioye adjourned the matter till November 1, 2018 for facts and sentence.
