Agent cautions Customs boss against witch hunting

Chairman, National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) Tin Can Island Chapter, Austin Ekweozor has cautioned the newly appointed Comptroller General of Customs, Col. Hameed Alli (rtd)  against using his position to witch-hunt any officer, agent or importer.

Ekweozor who stated this on Thursday in a chat with newsmen in Apapa called on the Customs CG to rather use his position to promote good policies that will encourage foreign investors in Nigeria to remain in the country.

“We are happy that there is change, we support his coming but our advise to‎ him is that his policies should not witch-hunt the people, if he finds out any lapses in Dikko’s tenure, he should correct it, but it should be done with caution because when the foreign investors are frustrated out of the country, we would be moving backwards.

“These are the people that will boost the economy of this country, if we drive them away, they will be helping other countries,” he said.

He lamented that business activities at the port has been slow as a result of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) policy on foreign exchange noting that it is not all importers that have access to letters of credit.
