One of the leading presidential candidates for the office of the National President of the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), Tony Iju Nwabunike has said that he will work to take Customs clearing jobs back from serving Customs officers and foreigners who denied agents of their legitimate duty, if elected in the forth coming election of the association.
Nwabunike, who stated this in his manifesto released in Lagos last week, also promised to facilitate constructive engagement with Customs, partner with the relevant committees of the National Assembly and the Presidency in order to attain a respectable and equal benefit for clearing agents.
Nwabunike promised to pursue a ‘One stop shop cargo clearance in the ports and border Stations’, adding that he intends to stop ‘interventions by agencies outside the ports’.
He said he would fight against excessive alerts, especially from the government and security agencies, adding that he will approach members of the National Assembly and authorities to define the duties of security and government agencies in the ports.
Nwabunike who is a former Chairman of Apapa Chapter of the Association and Chairman of Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) also promised to standardize cargo clearing process and charges, encourage and facilitate members to team up to acquire Customs licenses.
Among his promises to the association if elected include regular and consistent local and international training and retraining programs for members, and professionalization of customs brokerage business in Nigeria
“NECOM will institute a viable, ICT-driven administration involving every member, through the use of social media to communicate with members on a daily basis,” he said.
