Capacity building: CRFFN to spend N30m on freight forwarders in 2015

The Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) is set to train 300 registered freight forwarders in various institutions across the world on freight forwarding practice.

The Registrar of the council, Sir Mike Jukwe disclosed this to newsmen in Lagos recently.

Jukwe said cost for the training would be borne solely by CRFFN.

“Arrangement is being concluded for CRFFN to train 300 registered practitioners for a start in 2015, as follows: 150 for Certificate in Freight Forwarding (CIFF), 100 for FIATA Diploma in Freight Forwarding and Logistics (DFFL) and 50 for FIATA Higher Diploma in Supply Chain Management (HDSCM).

“The courses for the 300 beneficiaries will cost the council about N30million at one hundred thousand naira per person,” Jukwe said.

He also disclosed that the council would ensure that short and medium term refresher courses are organized by the Nigerian Institute of Freight Forwarding (NIFF) and other accredited consultancy firms of the council.

“Since the CRFFN is not a training institution but a regulatory council, NIFF and reputable consultancy firms to be accredited by CRFFN will offer short and medium term training programmes to practitioners.

“The programmes have since 2014 been introduced in Nigeria. CRFFN has accredited one tertiary institution in each of the six geopolitical zones to offer education and training programme in freight forwarding, logistics and supply chain management in Nigeria. Accreditation of training institutions is continuous.

“For the coming year 2016, the freight forwarding sub-sector would also make an input into the budget and the fiscal policies of the nation.

“We will be in a position to advise the government on issues that affect us and that can move the country forward,” Jukwe said.
