Car dealer in court for N.8m car theft in Apapa

A 36-year-old car dealer, Onyeka Shedrack, was on Thursday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing an unregistered Opel Zafira car valued at N800,000 in Apapa.

Shedrack is facing a three-count charge of stealing, false pretence and fraud.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Iyobosa Onaiwu told the court that the defendant committed the offences on November 10, 2018 at about 11am at No 6, Oluwa Street, Olodi-Apapa.

The prosecutor also said that the defendant obtained the sum of N650,000 from Onyeka Ani under the pretence of selling the car to Ani, a representation which he knew to be false.

Onaiwu added that the defendant stole and converted the sum to his personal use.

According to her, the offences are punishable under sections 287 and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges Magistrate O.S Abioye granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the case till March 21, 2019 for mention.
