A 51-year-old car dealer, Obiajunwa Benjamin, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly accusing a woman of extramarital affairs in Lagos.
Benjamin is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and breach of peace.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Marvellous Obongha, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on July 9, 2019 at about 4pm at 2nd Avenue, Opposite Big Fish Restaurant, 208 Road, Festac Town, Lagos.
“The defendant conspired together with three others at large to conduct themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by engaging themselves in frivolous discussion to denigrate, malign the reputation of one Dunu Sidney Emeka by laying falsehood that he informed Benjamin that one Mrs Osakwe Amaka has been demanding for extramarital affairs from him (Emeka), knowing same to be untrue,” Obongha said.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 413(2) and 168(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Magistrate Aisha Shittabey granted him bail in the sum of N80,000 with one surety in like sum. The surety is required to be gainfully employed and furnish the court with one year tax payment to Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case till July 30, 2019 for mention.
