A 51-year-old car hirer was arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over alleged theft of a car valued at N6 million.
The accused, who resides in Ogudu, Lagos, is standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Friday Mameh said the accused committed the offences at No. 26, Olubunmi Street, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, at 2.45 p.m. on September 11.
He alleged that the accused conspired with others still at large and stole a Cherokee Jeep with registration no. AAA 04 ET belonging to the complainant, Mr Abimbola Jelili.
Mameh said the accused came under the guise of buying the car and stole it.
The offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The accused, if found guilty, risks seven years in jail. The accused, however, denied the charge.
Counsel to the accused, urged the court to grant him bail on liberal terms.
In his ruling, the Magistrate, Mr B. A. Sonuga, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He said the sureties must be gainfully employed with an evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the case until October 5 for mention.
