The Swedish Maritime Administration is coordinating the salvage of general cargo ship which has run aground on the Gota River.
The Netherlands-flagged Skagern ran aground Thursday morning approximately two nautical miles southwest the Trollhättan locks after suffering some sort of technical problem, the Swedish Maritime Administration reported.’
No injuries have been reported among the ship’s eight crew members.
The vessel is carrying a cargo of lumber and wood products, and is sailing to Hull in the UK.
Local police boarded the ship following the grounding to conduct sobriety tests and at this time their is no suspicion that any crime was committed.
Divers have confirmed a small crack in the hull of the Skagern and the vessel has taken on a small amount of water in a forward ballast tank.
The Gota River has been temporarily closed to ship traffic.
