A 35-year-old clearing agent, Afolabi Saheed, who allegedly stole six empty containers worth N36 million, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
He was, however, released on bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.
Magistrate A.K Tella, who gave the ruling, said the sureties must show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government and their official and residential addresses must be verified.
Saheed, whose address is unknown, is facing a three-count charge of stealing the containers’ documents and the empty containers.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the offences.
The Police Prosecutor, Sergeant Olusegun Kokoye, told the court that defendant committed the offences on January 5, 2018 at about 1pm at No 1, Commercial Road, Eleganza Plaza, Apapa.
“Saheed stole containers documents from Heny Way Nigeria Limited and also stole six empty containers valued at N36 million properties of CMA CGM Company,” Kokoye said.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.
The case was adjourned until March 29, 2018 for mention.
