Clearing agent defrauds customer of N200,000 in Apapa

Court

A 46-year-old clearing agent, identified as Christopher Isidienu, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly defrauding one of his customers, Frank Uche, of N200,000.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Marvellous Ogbona told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 17, 2017 at Apapa.

Ogbona said the defendant collected the sum of N200,000 from one Frank Uche with the pretence that he was going to supply three drums of lubricant oil, a representation he knew to be false.

According to him, the offence contravenes Sections 314(a) and 280 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge brought against him.

In her ruling, Magistrate Adenike Alaka granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties each in like sum.

She ad journed the case till March 26, 2018 for mention.
