A 43-year-old clearing agent, Sunday Udoh was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing N1.5 million from an importer, Fadi Aoukan.
Udoh is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor, Inspector Bassey Sunday, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on July 25, 2018 at Apapa.
“The defendant conspired with others at large to steal N1.5 million property of one Fadi Aoukan,” Sunday said.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
Magistrate Nurudeen Layenim granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the case till August 15, 2018 for mention.
In a separate matter, a 25-year-old man, identified as Dahiru Muhammed, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing batteries belonging to Greenview Development Nigeria Limited.
Muhammed is facing one-count charge of stealing.
The port prosecutor, Sergeant Adeniyi Balogun told the court that the defendant committed the offfence on July 26, 2018 at about 3:40pm at Greenview Development Nigeria Limited.
“The defendant stole two sylon batteries valued at N120,000 property of Greenview Development Nigeria Limited,” Balogun said.
According to him, the offence is punishable under section 287 (5)(a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
The defendant pleaded guilty to the charge against him.
Magistrate Nurudeen Layeni, asked the Investigation Police Officer (IPO), Sergeant Abdullahi Sani, if the stolen items were recovered. Sani confirmed that the stolen batteries were recovered.
The Magistrate ordered that the accused be remanded in prison while he adjourned the case till August 7, 2018 for facts and sentence.
