Clearing agent docked for stealing 26 containers

Four docked for stealing items worth N.7m at Apapa port

A 49-year-old clearing agent, Obi Okonkwo, was on Thursday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing 26 empty containers at Apapa.

Okonkwo is facing a two-count charge of  conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Marvellous Obongha told the court that the defendant committed the offences on March 22, 2018 at about 10:30am at Nnewi Building, Apapa.

He said, “The defendant conspired with others to steal 26 empty containers valued N5,720,000 property of one Festus Aroh.”

According to him, the offences are punishable under section 411 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The defendant however pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

Magistrate Adenike Alaka granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with three sureties. She also ordered that a deposit of N50,000 be made before the bail is granted.

She adjourned the case till May 15, 2018 for mention.
