Rodolphe Saadé has been appointed as vice-chairman executive officer of the CMA CGM Group.
Last year Saadé led discussions for the establishment of an operational alliance with Maersk and MSC, to form the P3 network.
Saadé began his career with CMA in New York in 1994, also working in Hong Kong, before moving to the shipping company’s head office in Marseille.
As second-in-command of the Group, Saadé’s position is in line with Jacques R. Saadé’s desire for Rodolphe to succeed him when the time comes.
Furthermore, Tanya Saade Zeenny was named executive officer, in addition to her role as general secretary, which extends her responsibilities to include global accounts and marketing, administration, institutional relations, the environment and the CMA CGM foundation.
The world’s third largest ocean carrier also saw volumes handled rise 5.8% in the first quarter, to 2.8 million teu, with revenues growing 2.7% to $3.94 billion.
The Shanghai Containerised Freight Index reported the average fall in freight rates in the industry was 8.6%, whilst CMA CGM only dropped 2.9% in average freight rates.
