Colombian Navy nabs drug traffickers

Colombian navy and police forces have seized 193 kilograms of cocaine and 20 kilograms of marijuana hidden in cargo holds of the Panama-flagged general cargo ship Clara E.

The Coast Guard Station Barranquilla officers detained and boarded the vessel while docked at Las Flores, at the mouth of the Magdalena river.

The 1958-built, 533 dwt freighter was en route from Barranquilla to San Andrés. Six Colombians and a Nicaraguan found on board the vessel at the time of the inspection were arrested and will be charged with drug trafficking.

Colombian Navy has seized 4.3 tons of cocaine and arrested 60 people for drug trafficking in 2015.
