The communities around the Gelegele seaport, in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo, have commended Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo for the development of the Gelegele seaport.
The Gelegele communities under the Ekaladeran Peoples Forum (EPF), spoke through their spokesman, Austine Amiuwu while addressing newsmen in Benin on Monday.
They described the move as that which will be economically beneficial to both the state as well as the communities around the proposed sea sport.
It would be recalled that Obaseki had set up a Seven-man technical committee to work out modalities for the development of the Gelegele seaport.
Amiuwu if pursued to its logical conclusion, the Ekaladeran people would remain forever grateful to the governor.
He said the people have for over four decades,made concerted efforts to the government’s at both the state and Federal level, to develop the Gelegele seaport.
He said the setting up of a technical committee by the present government of Edo, is the first ever major step to be taking by any government towards the development of the port.
The spokesman said it was based on this reason that the Gelegele communities greeted with with wild jubilation, the setting up of a technical committee.
“Our joy is that our people, communities and the state in general, will be transformed with this laudable project. Economically, Socially and infrastructurally, we stand to benefit a lot if this projects is completed.
“As a communities, we have been neglected not only by not developing the Gelegele sea port, but also failure to give us a local government of our own.
“These communities have contributed to the state 13% derivation of the federal government allocation and the 47 polling Units which the area control out of the 67 Polling Units in the constituency, yet has been seriously marginalized.
Also speaking, the Secretary General of the group and Vice Chairman. Host Communities of Oil Producing Area in Edo, Stanley Osayande, assured of readiness of the communities to ensure security in the area when the project finally takes off.
