Container volumes drop at Port of Singapore 

Singapore container port volumes up 8.7% in 2018

The Port of Singapore handled lower container volumes in February, according to preliminary estimates released by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

Last month, Singapore moved 2.74 million TEU, a decrease of 2.8% compared to 2.82 million TEU handled in February 2018, MPA figures showed.

February throughput was also lower on a month-on-month comparison with the 3 million TEU recorded in January. 

In the first two months of this year, Singapore recorded a total throughput of 5.74 million, inching down 1.4% compared to 5.82 million TEU posted in corresponding period of 2018. 

In 2018, Singapore moved a record high throughput of 36.6 million TEU, up from the 33.67 million handled in 2017.
