Court convicts 87-year-old woman to life imprisonment for peddling hemp

87-year-old woman remanded in Kirikiri for allegedly peddling hemp

A Federal High Court in Lagos, on Thursday, has convicted one 87-year-old woman, Maria Agbomabiwon, to life imprisonment for dealing in 10.3 kg of marijuana.

Justice Hadiza Rabiu-Shagari instructed the prison warden to take Agbomabiwon to Old Peoples’ Home because of her age.

Last week, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency had dragged the accused, who resides at No. 9, Osunba Street, Oto-Awori, Ijaniki, Lagos, to the court on one-count charge bothering on drug trafficking.

According to the Prosecutor, Aliyu Abubaker , Agbomabiwon was charged with unlawful dealing in the prohibited substance, contrary to the provisions of Sections 11(c) of NDLEA Act, Cap. N30, Laws of the Federation, 2004.
