A 38-year-old motorcyclist, Uchenna Ejiofor, was Tuesday set free by an Apapa Magistates’ Court, Lagos after facing trial for riding his motorcycle within the port premises without permit.

The prosecutor told the court that the accused was arrested on January 21 at about 1:55pm at Nigerian Ports Authority access road, Tin Can Island Port Apapa for unlawfully disobeying the order of NPA by riding his Bajaj Motorcycle with registration number QT499EKY within the port premises without any reasonable excuse or permission and thereby committing an offence punishable under section 123 Laws of Lagos State, 2011.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs O.O.Oshin, asked the complainant, a staff of Nigerian Ports Authority, the reason behind the arrest and what he wanted to achieve. He could not provide a convincing reason.

Mrs Oshin obviously alarmed at why such a trivial matter should be brought to the court dismissed it forthwith.

She said she expected that at the point of arresting the rider, he should have been reprimanded.

She then struck out the case and directed that Ejiofor’s motorcycle be released immediately to him.
