Court frees six motorcyclists accused of riding within port premies

Court sentences stowaway

The Apapa Magistrates’ Court in Lagos yesterday struck out a case filed against six motorcyclists for disobeying an order of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) banning the use of motorcycles within the port premises.

The Magistrate, Mrs A.I. Alaka, said she struck out the case because the investigating police officer (IPO) and complainant were not in court.

She ordered the authorities to return the motorcycles seized from the accused persons returned to them.

It would be recalled that Lawrence Luka (22), Yisa Mama (31), Bakman Yerima (30), Musa Ibrahim (21), Shaibu Ibrahim (24) and Mustapher Bukra (24) had been arraigned on one-count charge of riding their motorcycles within the port premises without permission.

The prosecutor, Alexander Esebame, had told the court that the defendants committed the offence on December 20, 2016 between 6am and 1pm on the access road within the preises of Tin Can Island Port.
