The Commissioner of Police’ Monitoring Unit in Apapa on Friday arraigned a-32-year-old customs agent, Ifeanyi Gasa, before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing N1.8 million and a car valued at N8 million.
Gasa who works for Saidu Kilishi Yarima Farm & Company (Custom Licence Agents) is facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, stealing and fraud.
The port prosecutor, Alexander Esebamen, told the court that the defendant committed the offences in March 2018 at Tin-Can Isalnd, Apapa.
“The defendant conspired with others at large to steal one unregistered Honda CRV 2015 Model valued at N8 million property of one Aduebe Godwin Ezebilo,” Esebamen said.
The prosecutor added that the defendant obtained the sum of N1.8 million from one Aduebe Godwin Ezebuilo, to clear a Honda CRV 2015 Model with intent to defraud.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 287 and 314(a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to all the charges brought against him.
Magistrate M. Owumi granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the matter till September 10, 2018 for mention.
