The Customs Area Controller, Lilypond Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Comptroller Willy Egbudin, has stoutly denied allegations that the Customs Management may be planning to abolish the command due to its lingering state of inactivity.
Egbudin told SHIPS & PORTS DAILY that he is unaware of plans by the Service to scrap the command, even as he admitted that the command recently had meetings with the management of Lilypond terminals and that plans are under way to revive the command.
In his words: “We had meetings with the management of lilypond last week and they have assured us that within the two weeks they will see what they can do revive the command.”
On the planned protest by freight forwarding agents operating at the command over non-transfer of containers to the command, a situation they claim has left them idle, Egbudin maintained that addressing the situation with the concerned party requires persuasion and not protests that may eventually lead to chaos.
“I know they are not happy with the state of redundancy experienced in the command but I don’t think going on protest will solve any problem. I think persuasion is better than the protest that may eventually lead to nowhere. We should keep on convincing them to address the situation,” he said.
