DC Shoboiki redeployed

Controversial officer in charge of Terminal B1 of Tin Can Island Container Terminal (TICT), Deputy Comptroller Jayne Shoboiki, has been moved from that position, SHIPS & PORTS DAILYcan authoritatively reveal.

Her redeployment is coming on the heels of the recent unannounced visit of the Customs Comptroller General, Dikko Inde Abdulahi, to the Tin Can Island Port Command where he caught some of his officers with their hands in the till. Dikko expressed public shock at the involvement of some of his officers’ in fraudulent activities at the port.

The Customs boss was said to have caught one of the officers, a Chief Superintendent of Customs (CSC), Richard Egeson, red handed with money and immediately yanked off his rank and ordered his arrest. Egeson was the staff officer to DC Shoboiki.

Impeccable sources revealed to SHIPS & PORTS DAILY that while Egeson was detained at the Customs enforcement unit for several days and may be suspended from the Service, Shoboiki has been redeployed to a yet to be disclosed unit.

Shoboiki, who was summoned to Abuja along with other deputy comptrollers of the command to Abuja, has been replaced by one Deputy Controller Ganiu I.A.

The Customs high command was said to be investigating the controversial deputy controller for alleged involvement in the release of about seven containers of contraband goods at the port.

SHIPS & PORTS DAILY also learnt that apart from the duo, other officers are currently being investigated in connection with the alleged release of the containers said to contain contraband items.

Meanwhile, clearing operations is gradually returning at the vehicle seat of TICT following the appointment a new head at the terminal.

Activities at the terminal, it was gathered have been at a low ebb since the CG’s spot check on his officers at the terminal.

The Customs boss has since the development, directed some top officers from the headquarters to place constant checks on the terminal and others within the Tin Can and Apapa axis.

When contacted to confirm this development, Customs Area Controller of the Command, Zakari Jubril said: “There is no staff order yet. It has not been confirmed officially. The only thing is that she has been replaced at the terminal.”
Also speaking, Founder of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), Dr.Boniface Aniebonam, said “the system that brought her there has removed her from there.”
