Two directors of Adrog Cargo Handlers Limited, Lagos, Ajayi Olusola, 44, and Aduroja Olawoyin, 41, have been arraigned before a Lagos State Magistrates’ Court over alleged issuance of two dud cheques to Ogbemudia Collins Osunde.
The accused persons were arrested by the operatives of the Police Special Fraud Unit, Milverton Street, Ikoyi, Lagos.
After investigation by Inspector Atoi Uzorma and his team, the accused persons were arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrates’ court on a three-count charge of felony to wit, issuance of two Sterling Bank dud cheques with intent to defraud.
Police prosecutor, ASP Olakammi Omisope informed the court in charge No E/37/2015 that the accused persons who are directors of Adrog Handlers Limited committed the offence between 30 June and 30 July 2013 in Lagos.
Omisope told the court presided over by Magistrate B. A. Sonuga that the accused persons with intent to defraud the complainant, Ogbemudia Collins Osunde, issued two Sterling Bank Plc cheque Nos 06739929 in the sum of N400,000 and 06739931 in the sum of N5,000,000 to him, but when he presented the cheques in the bank for payment, they were dishonoured on the ground that there was no funds in the account.
He noted that the offences the accused persons committed are punishable under sections 409 and 319(a)(b) of the criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused persons however denied the police allegations in the open court while their counsel, Barr, Mike Egarodne urged the court to grant bail to his clients on the most liberal terms because his clients are responsible citizens who will not jump bail.
Magistrate Sonuga admitted them to bail in the sum of N500,000 each with two sureties each in like sum.
Sonuga adjourned the case till 26 November 2015 for mention, while the defendants were taken to Ikoyi prisons, Lagos when they could not perfect their bail conditions before the court closed proceedings for the day.
