Egypt on Saturday inaugurated the $17 million Sphinx International Airport, near the Giza Pyramids and the new Grand Egyptian Museum in the outskirts of Cairo, the country’s capital.

The airport is part of the government’s plan to boost tourism by improving access to historical sites from resort areas on the Red sea like Sharm el Sheikh and Hurghada.

The airport is expected to handle 30 flights in early February during its trial run and will be fully operational next year.
