As campaigns for various elective positions at the western zone chapters of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) become more intense, candidates contesting for election at the Apapa, Tin Can and Kirirkiri Lighter Terminal chapters of the association have flooded the national headquarters of the association with various sizes of colourful campaign posters.
Several posters of the various candidates for vying for diverse officers were pasted on the wall of the association’s headquarters otherwise called NAGAFF Village.
When SHIPS & PORTS DAILY correspondent visited the village yesterday, he sighted various posters defacing the entrance with series of messages and inscriptions.
Moreover, since the day the election time table was released last year, NAGAFF village has been a Mecca of sort for candidates who have been seen thronging the place with their supporters campaigning and selling their candidature to the electorate.
SHIPS & PORTS DAILY reported that the NAGAFF Electoral Commission (NECOM) on Tuesday released campaign guidelines for candidates contesting the election.
According to the guidelines released by the Chairman of the committee, Okey Nerus, the association banned the formation of teams or causes by candidates.
“It is noted that every individual contestant must stand on his/her own for the purpose of the election and that each elective position stands on its own,” Nerus stated.
Nerus also barred contestants from use of abusive language or from instigating violence.
He also said that candidates can be disqualified from contesting election due to “security reasons.”
