ENL staff, boat rider docked for stealing 10 bags of fertilizer

A staff of ENL Consortium and a wooden boat rider were arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court on Friday for stealing 10 bags of fertilizer at ENL Terminal inside the Lagos Port Complex, Apapa. 

Sunday Onwen, 30 and the wooden boat rider, Jack Uche, 20, pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Adeniyi Balogun told the court that the defendants committed the offence on Tuesday August 15, 2017 at about 2:45am at ENL Terminal, Apapa.

He added that Onwen stole 10 bags of NPK 50kg Springfield Agro fertilizer valued at N100,000 while Jack Uche dishonestly received the 10 bags of fertilizer from Onwen and hid them in a wooden boat powered by 19HP Tohatau engine.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened sections 411, 287 and 328(1) of the criminal law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mrs Adenike Alaka granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 each with two sureties in like sum. 

She adjourned the case till September 19, 2017 for mention.

In a similar circumstance, it would be recalled that a 28-year-old man, Bernard Amadi was arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing fertilizer at ENL Consortium Terminal at the Lagos Port Complex, Apapa.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and entering the port without a port pass.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Adeniyi Balogun told the court that the defendant committed the offence on August 8, 2017 at about 5:30am at ENL Terminal.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened sections 411, 21(1) and 400(1) of the criminal laws of Lagos State 2015.

Magistrate Temitope Babalola granted the defendant bail in the sum of N25,000 with one responsible surety. 

He adjourned the case till September 4, 2017 for mention.
