A 34-year-old ‘fake’ clearing agent, Onyebuchi Kingsley, has been arraigned in Apapa Magistrates’ court yesterday for allegedly defrauding Adewale Adebiyi to the tune of N470,000 under the pretense of clearing a Toyota Camry 2007 for the victim.
Kingsley pleaded not guilty to the three-count charges against him.
The prosecutor, Alexander Esesbamen, told the court that the defendant committed the offences in February 2017 at PTML, Mile 2 Terminal Port, Apapa by allegedly parading himself as a clearing agent to defraud one Adewale Adebiyi.
Esebamen said the defendant collected the sum of N470,000 from the complainant to clear one Toyota Camry 2007 but converted the money to personal use.
The prosecutor said on February 14, 2017 between 8am and 12noon at Tin Can Island Port, Apapa, the defendant forged some documents to cover the sum of N470,000 collected from the complainant.
He added that the offences contravened sections 316, 312 and 363(2) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011.
The Magistrate, Mrs Osho Adebiyi granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case till May 16, 2017 for hearing.
