Female agent allegedly steals N390,000 for Dubai visa

A 49-year-old female visa agent, Rita Nchechukwube, was on Monday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing N390,000 meant for procuring Dubai visa.

Nchechukwube is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, false pretense and stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in the year 2018 at First Bank Plc, Olodi-Apapa.

“The defendant conspired together with others at large to obtain the sum of N390,000 from one Annet Igben with the pretence that she was going to procure Dubai visa for her, a representation which she knew to be false,” Ekpo said.

The prosecutor also said that the defendant stole and converted the sum of N390,000 for her personal use, property of one Annet Igben.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 314 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against her.

Magistrate Nurudeen Layeni granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the matter till March 6, 2019 for mention.
