The management of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) on Monday dismissed rumours that it had shut the head office of INTELS Nigeria Limited for defaulting in tax payment.
FIRS Spokesman, Wahab Gbadamosi, said the agency did not at any point in time shut INTELS but that it merely posted a routine tax reminder on the company’s premises.
“It (the tax reminder) does not in any way halt or affect the company’s operations. It is not even a punitive move. It is like a reminder to fulfill their obligations, especially on the Company’s Income Tax (CIT) and Value Added Tax (VAT) as enshrined in their respective Acts.
“It is part of our compliance procedures. It is because of the political atmosphere in the country today that people are reading wrong meanings to it. It is nothing other than our compliance procedure,” Gbadamosi said.
