Four stowaways to know fate September 17

Four docked for stealing items worth N.7m at Apapa port

An Apapa Magistrates’ Court presided over by A.S. Okubule has slated September 17, 2018 for facts and sentence of the four stowaways remanded in Kirikiri prison since August 28, 2018.

The men, Jimoh Akeem (36), Mathew Odion (28), Sadiku Adinoyi (37) and Friday Idoko (25) were in court for allegedly entering a vessel without purchasing ticket.

It would be recalled that the four men were facing a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and boarding a vessel without purchasing ticket.

The port prosecutor, Sergeant Adeniyi Balogun, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on August 23, 2018 at APM Terminal, Berth 17, Apapa Port.

“The defendants conspired together without purchasing ticket or being a passenger of a ship entered MV Harrier Hunter with the intention of traveling to Europe,” Balogun said.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 412 and 400 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The defendants pleaded guilty to the charges against them.
