Freight forwarder drags man to court over phone theft

A 26-year-old man identified as Obodo Chinwikpe was on Thursday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a freight forwarder’s telephone at Liverpool Road, Apapa.

Chinwikpe is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Marvellous Obongha, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on November 11, 2018 at about 3:30pm at Liverpool Road, Apapa.

“The defendant conspired together with three others to steal one Infinix Hot S3X phone valued at N62,000 property of one Usifo Emeka,” Obongha said.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411 and 280(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

Magistrate K.A Ariyo granted the defendant bail in the sum of N20,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must be gainfully employed and must furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case till December 10, 2018 for mention.
