The National Association of Government Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) on Sunday decried the high tariff imposed on importers by the Nigeria Customs Service.
The Chairman of NAGAFF Murtala Muhammed International Airport Chapter, Segun Musa said this while speaking with journalists in Lagos.
Musa appealed to the Federal Government to review the policy, saying it was having an adverse effect on Nigerians involved in importation business.
According to him, the high tariff policy has forced many importers out of business while others have relocated out of the country in the last few months.
He called on the Federal Government to engage the private sector and stakeholders in policy formulation in order to get things right.
Musa said that the demise of some major industries in the country was caused by insecurity and lack of infrastructure and not due to importation businesses.
The NAGAFF chairman also advised the government to properly monitor the activities of customs officials toward blocking revenue leakages.
“The revenue leakage is more than the revenue collected in Nigeria, the tariff on imports are so high and that has taken a lot of businesses out Nigeria,” he said.
