Freight Forwarders to collaborate with journalists to advance freight forwarding

The Nigerian Institute of Freight Forwarders and Customs Brokers (NIFFCB) on Tuesday said it would collaborate with the Maritime Reporters to create a dynamic forum for all registered freight forwarders.

The Registrar of NIFFCB, Mr Ifeanyinchukwu Joseph, said this while members of the institute paid a courtesy visit to the secretariat of the Maritime Reporters’ Association of Nigeria (MARAN) in Lagos.
Joseph said that partnering with MARAN would enable the freight forwarders’ voice to be heard not only in the maritime industry in Nigeria but also globally.

“Freight forwarding is an important aspect of the national economy. It is the hub of all national economic
development efforts and aspirations, particularly as it is Air and Sea transport.
“This is why we are calling for collaboration with the maritime journalists in our drive to train a crop of dedicated individuals that can be of service in the freight forwarding industry,” he said.
Joseph said the institute’s mandate was to test and certify practitioners and to also ensure professionalism of the practitioners in order to make meaningful contributions to the industry.
The registrar said that NIFFCB also encouraged professionals, such as bankers, accountants, doctors and lawyers interested in the freight forwarding profession.
Joseph said the institute also aimed at training freight forwarders to the peak of professional excellence.
“With the support of maritime reporters, I believe we shall collectively contribute positively to the development of freight forwarding in the country.
“We have embarked on a process of systematically positioning the institute to deliver its mandate in line with world practices,” Joseph said.
The President of MARAN, Mr Bolaji Akinola, said that journalists, as the fourth estate of the realm, would give the institute the necessary support as being given to other stakeholders in the industry.
