Iran’s shipping lines to welcome foreign investment

Head of Iran’s national shipping firm described the country as the best opportunity for investment, and said that Iran welcomes foreign investments.

Following implementation of the nuclear deal Iran signed with the major world powers, a good ground is available for foreign investment in Iran’s strategic projects, Managing Director of Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) Mohammad Saiedi said.

Iran and five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council plus Germany signed a nuclear agreement known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Under the deal, Iran accepted to limit its nuclear activities in exchange for economic sanctions relief.

‘The figures also shows that foreign direct investment (FDI) by the European countries in Iran has been increasing,’ the official said in an economic forum with Iranian and Italian businessmen, attended by the two countries’ ambassadors in Tehran.

‘Italy has always been Iran’s best strategic partner in Europe, and there is much potential for boosting cooperation between the two countries,’ he said.

IRISL is playing a vital role in marine transportation between Iran and Europe, with Iran in a strategic position on the Silk Road in linking Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) with China through railway, maritime and land routes.

‘IRISL, as Iran’s national shipping lines, calls on foreign investors to participate in Iran’s maritime shipping projects,’ he said.
