Judiciary workers’ strikes frustrates trial of agents

The strike by workers under the aegis of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), which was called off yesterday, affected the trial of some suspected touts recently arrested in a joint raid by personnel of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) at the Tin-Can Island Port Complex (TCIPC), Apapa, Lagos.
SHIPS & PORTS DAILY reliably gathered that, of the 88 persons arrested last month, 37 persons are still behind bars in both Police and Customs custody, as well as the Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison.
It was learnt that 12 out of the suspects, who are under the custody of the Customs, have means of identification, but would be facing trial at the Federal High Court to ascertain the legitimacy of their documents.
The other 25 suspects, allegedly without any form of identification, according to sources, are to be arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate Court in Lagos on March 22, 2013
