The leadership of Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), has warned against any act capable of breaching industrial peace in the nation’s ports, urging workers to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the security agents or the union.
President-General of the union, Anthony Nted , who gave the advise while addressing delegates and leaders of the union from the Dockworkers, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Shipping and Seamen branches of the union, ahead of the National Delegates Conference (NDC), next month, also warned against damaging of candidates’ posters.
According to him, any card-carrying member of the union caught destroying candidates’ posters would be dealt with accordingly, urging genuine members of the union to be law abiding, while also calling on the security agencies to deal with trouble makers in accordance with the law.
He lamented that some disgruntled elements bent on discrediting the union’s leadership had written no fewer than 15 malicious petitions against him and the President of Dockworkers’ branch of the union, Adewale Adeyanju, who is seeking to be elected the next president-general of the union.
Visibly angry, he insisted that he had nothing to hide or be afraid of, however, said he had left the authors of the petitions to God.
He stated: “I have consistently made it clear that every bonafide and card carrying member of the union is constitutionally qualified to vote and be voted for.”
