Lagos spends N36bn to avert ocean surge

The Lagos State Government yesterday disclosed that it has committed N36 billion to proffer lasting solution to incessant ocean surges along the Lagos coastline.

The State Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Engineer Adebowale Akinsanya, said this during the ongoing ministerial press briefing at Alausa Secretariat Lagos, adding that the fund would be spent on 18 groynes (sea breakers) at intervals of 400 metres along the entire length of 7.5km.

He said the construction of each groyne cost N2 billion, and that the project was awarded in November 2012 and divided into three phases for funding conveniences, and that much of the work had been done.
