The widow of a late former Acting Director General of the defunct National Maritime Authority (NMA), Mr. Adebisi Akinfie; Mrs. V.K. Akinfie, has accused the past leadership of the Nigerian Maritime and Safety Agency (NIMASA) of refusing to pay the entitlement due to her as wife of a former chief executive of the agency.
The widow claimed that former Directors-General of the agency had ignored her repeated letters, including the one she wrote last year to the immediate past Director-General, Patrick Akpobolokemi, wherein she stressed her need for funds to enable her pay for a surgical operation.
Akinfie, whose husband acted briefly as the DG of NMA in 1999 after the sack of Buba Galadima and before the appointment of John Egesi, claimed to have been contacted by NIMASA on May 30 last year to forward the details of her bank account so that her entitlement could be paid.
She, however, said since after that conversation with an official of NIMASA named Iyabo Akinmoladun, she had heard nothing further from the agency.
According to her, her various letters addressed to the former DG of NIMASA but which were ignored, were dated August 6, 2014; October 17, 2014; November 26, 2014 and August 4, 2015.
Akinfie said her son, Olumide, also wrote a letter dated April 30, 2015, which was also ignored.
The widow said she suspected a foul play by NIMASA as regards her entitlement.
