The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has denied report that its acting chairman, Ibrahim Magu would be removed as the head of the anti-graft agency.
The agency was reacting to speculation that President Muhammadu Buhari has caved in to the demand of federal lawmakers. The senate has maintained that it does not recognise Magu as EFCC boss and demanded for his sack.
Unconfirmed reports circulated by unknown persons on whatsapp stated that one Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ahmad AbdulRahman will take over from Magu as head of the agency.
“This pragmatic super cop hailed from Kirfi LGA, Bauchi State. He was enlisted into the NPF as Cadet ASP in 1990 at Nigeria Police Academy Annex, Kaduna,” reads part of the message.
Reacting to this speculation, the EFCC via its verified Twitter handle, said, “#Alert: For the avoidance of any doubt, there is no “change of guards” at the EFCC. Ibrahim Magu remains the acting EFCC Chairman. Purveyors of #fakenews concerning the EFCC are hereby warned to desist from such mischief as the anti-graft agency remains committed to its mission”.
