Man allegedly steals plank for export in Lagos

A 35-year-old man, identified as Uwabinkeonye Israel, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly nine pieces of plank meant for export in Lagos.

The prosecutor, Alexander Esebamen told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 3, 2019 at about 1:30pm at Trade Fair Complex, Lagos.

“The defendant unlawfully had in his possession nine pieces of plank suspected to have been stolen which he could not give a satisfactory account of how they came into his possession,” Esebamen said.

According to him, the offence is punishable under section 329 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendant, who is facing a one-count charge of stealing, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Magistrate A.I.O Alaka granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government. One of the sureties must be a blood relation to the defendant.

She adjourned the case till April 26, 2019 for mention.
