Man charged for breaking into container at Apapa port 

A 34-year old man named Ayodele Michael was yesterday arraigned at the Apapa Magistrate Court 2 by the police for allegedly stealing goods worth N500, 000.00.

The accused had earlier appeared before the Magistrate on 26 July 2016 on the same case on a three-count charge which bordered on criminality.

The allegations stated that the accused Ayodele Michael, on the 25th day of July 2016 at about 0630hrs at APM Terminals, Apapa Port in the Apapa Magisterial District, did break and entered into container no MRKU-3114274 with the intent to commit felony therein and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 285(f) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Also on the same date, time and place in the aforesaid Magisterial District, Ayodele was accused of stealing from container no MRKU-3114274, one (1) big carton of Slidenafit Citrate tablet containing one thousand, two hundred packets of Hygra drugs valued five hundred thousand Naira (N500, 000.00) property of APM Terminal Ltd, and thereby committing an offence punishable under section 285 (1) (5) (f) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The third charge read “That you, Ayodele Michael, ‘m’, on the same date, time and place in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did enter into Apapa Wharf without the Nigerian Port Authority Ticket and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 398 (1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.”

He pleaded not guilty to all the charges. While the accused had no lawyer to defend his case, the Magistrate, Mrs Osho Adebiyi gave him a bail of N500, 000.00 with two sureties in like sum.

The prosecutor, Mr Alexander Esebamen did not object to the bail. The case was later moved to Kirikiri Magistrate Court for Friday, 28th October, 2016 for continuation of trial.
