Man charged for stealing N14m meant for diesel supply

A 41-year-old man, identified as Kenneth Dennis, was on Thursday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing N14 million meant to supply diesel in Lagos.

Dennis is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, false pretence and stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendant committed the offences between October and November 2016 at about 12pm at Bride Close, Ijesha, Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos.

“The defendant conspired together with others at large obtained the sum of N11.4 million from one Brain Field Consult Company and the sum of N2.6 million from one Aruogu Chinonye. Making the total sum of N14 million with the pretence to supply them 5,000 metric tons of AGO product, popularly known as diesel, a representation he knew to be false,” Aigbokhan said.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 314(1) and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State Government.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Magistrate Joy Ugbomoiko granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with one surety.

The surety is required to earn at least N2 million per annum with proof and furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the matter till August 15, 2019 for mention.
