Man in court for assaulting police officer

Fake travel agent docked for N265,000 visa fraud
A 46-year-old man, identified as Achoson Atukwo, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting one police officer, Inspector Momodu Dirisu.

Atukwo is facing a three-count charge bordering on assault and malicious damage.

The prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on November 23, 2018 at about 10:30am at Boundary Roundabout, Ajegunle, Apapa.

“The defendant seriously assaulted one Inspector Momodu Dirisu attached to Ajeromi Police Station, Ajegunle, Apapa, Lagos by giving him a fist blow in the mouth and all over his body while performing his lawful duty,” Ekpo said.

The prosecutor also said that the defendant maliciously damaged one wrist watch valued at N15,000 property of Inspector Momodu Dirisu.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 174 and 339 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

Magistrate Nurudeen Layeni granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the case till December 17, 2018 for mention.
