Man steals vital documents, laptop from Naval officer

A 20-year-old man, identified as Ikenna Bright, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing bill of lading of cars, phones and other items in Apapa.

Bright is facing a three-count charge OF conspiracy, threat to kill and stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on October 19, 2018 at about 2:30am at no 52, Turner Street, Ajegunle, Apapa.

“The defendant conspired together with others at large by threatening to kill one Emmanuel Ojinaka and one Sylvester Ogbonna with a cutlass,” Aigbokhan said.

The prosecutor also said that the defendant stole one original bill of lading of a Toyota Venza 2012 model, Toyota Camry 2010 model, cash sum of N367,000, Home Theatre valued at N70,000, Samsung X5 handset valued at N13,000, Laptop valued at N75,000, Three Itel phones valued at N83,000, Two wrist-watches valued at N8,000 and Necklace valued at N1,500. The total valued at N652,500 property of one Emmanuel Ojinaka and one Sylvester Ogbonna.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 56(g) and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.

Magistrate Joy Ugbomoiko granted the defendant bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must be gainfully employed and must furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government. 

One of the sureties must be a blood relation to the defendant with proof.

She adjourned the case till December 4, 2018 for mention.
