A 38-year-old man identified as Michael Omokhia was on Tuesday arraigned
before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing vital documents and laptop belonging to a Nigerian Navy Lieutenant.
Omokhia is facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, stealing
and causing damage.
The prosecutor, Inspector Augustine Ejembi, told the court that the
defendant committed the alleged offences on August 5, 2018 at Lilypond
Bridge, Apapa Road.
“The defendant conspired with others at large to steal vital documents
and one HP laptop whose value is not yet to be ascertained; the property
of one Lieutenant G.A Afolami,” Ejembi said.
The prosecutor added that the defendant damaged the black glass of one
Toyota Camry valued at N50,000 belonging to Lieutenant G.A. Afolami.
According to him, the offences are punishable under section 412, 287(a)
and 350 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
Magistrate O.M Ajayi granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000
with two sureties each in like sum.
The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with
proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case till October 22, 2018 for mention.
