Man docked for impersonating police officer, steals N50,000

Four docked for stealing items worth N.7m at Apapa port
A 35-year-old man, identified as Abdulmalik Samma was on Tuesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly impersonating as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) at Apapa.

Samma is facing a two-count charge bordering on impersonation and stealing.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Marvellous Obongha, told the court the defendant committed the offences on August 24, 2018 at about 9am at Event Hotel located at No. 100, Baale Street, Olodi-Apapa.

“The defendant impersonated to be a Deputy Superintendent of Police with a complimentary card contains the Office of the Deputy Inspector General of Police,” Obongha said.

Obongha added that the defendant stole N50,000 property of Event Hotel.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 287 and 380 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.

Magistrate O. S Abioye granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one responsible surety.

The surety, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the matter till September 20, 2018 for mention.
