Man docked for stealing motorcycle in Apapa 

Four docked for stealing items worth N.7m at Apapa port

A 46-year-old man, identified as Solomon Einy, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing motorcycle worth N370,000 under the pretence to register it in Apapa.

Einy is facing a three-count charge bordering on false pretence and stealing.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Marvellous Obongha told the court that the defendant committed the offences on February 6, 2019 at about 12pm at No128, Bale Street, Ajeungle, Apapa.

“The defendant obtained the sum of N5,000 from one Tegugu Felicia with pretence to register one unregistered Bajaj motorcycle BM100 which he knows to be false,” Obongha said.

The prosecutor also said that the defendant stole the N5,000 and on March 13, 2019 at about 11am at the same place, the defendant stole the Bajaj motorcycle valued at N370,000 property of one Tegugu Felicia.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 314 (3) and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.

Magistrate K.A Ariyo granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the matter till April 23, 2019 for mention.

In a separate case, the police on Friday, arraigned a 27-year-old man, identified as Yusuf Abdulahi, before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing phones, television and other valuable items in Apapa.

Abdulahi is facing a five-count charge bordering on conspiracy, assault and stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Donjor Perezi told the court that the defendant committed the offences on March 10, 2019 at No 7, Ayinde Street, Ajegunle, Apapa.

“The defendant conspired together with others at large to unlawfully assault one Mohammed Yusuf by beating him up with fist blows all over his body,” Perezi said.

The prosecutor also said that the defendant stole one Plasma TV, one GoTV decoder, one Tecno K7 phone and one DVD player; all valued at N87,000 and cash sum of N35,000 properties of one Muhammed Yusuf.

Perezi added that the defendant stole one Tecno Y4 phone valued at N18,000 and Tecno K7 phone valued at N35,000 property of one Rabiu Musa and one Abubakar respectively.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 171 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

Magistrate O.A Erinle granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the matter till April 16, 2019 for mention.
