A 36-year-old Wakibu Adebayo has been arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court 8 sitting in Lagos for allegedly stealing two bags of crude raw salt.
He however pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge of stealing.
The prosecuting counsel, Sergeant Adeniyi Balogun told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 20, 2017 at about 2am at Access Road, Apapa.
Balogun added that the defendant stole two bags of crude raw salt valued at N7,000 property of Dangote Company.
He said the offence contravened section 285 (5c) of the criminal laws of Lagos State, 2011.
Counsel to the defendant, Dadi Mannap prayed the Magistrate to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms considering the value of the unrefined salt stolen.
The Magistrate, Mr. T.O Babalola granted the defendant bail in the sum of N10,000 with one surety.
The case was adjourned till July 10, 2017.
In a similar development, the trial of two men, namely Suleiman Dauda and Peter Uwaga continued at the Apapa Magistrates’ Court.
They were charged for allegedly stealing 68 bags of Dangote crude salt belonging to Dangote Nascon Company.
The prosecuting counsel had already told the court that the defendants committed the offence on October 28, 2016 at about 4:30am at Eleganza plaza area in Apapa, Lagos.
