Man pleads guilty to stealing N1.6m sugar at Tin Can port

Four docked for stealing items worth N.7m at Apapa port

A 32-year-old man, identified as Bashiru Jubril was on Tuesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing 105 bags of sugar at the Tin Can Island Port Complex.

Jubril is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The port prosecutor, Sergeant Adeniyi Balogun told the court that the defendant committed the offences between 5th and 10th of July, 2018 at BUA Transport Company Nigeria Limited, Tin Can Island.

“The defendant conspired together with two others at large to steal 105 bags of sugar valued at N1,564,500 property of BUA Transport Company Nigeria Limited,” Balogun said.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The defendant pleaded guilty to the charges against him.

Magistrate O. A. Erinle adjourned the case till August 14, 2018 for facts and sentence.
